INRA CSGA has a three-year PhD position available, from autumn 2018; within the ITN Marie Curie project Edulia (www.edulia.eu), in the team “Determinants of eating behavior across the lifespan” (Dijon, France).

We are looking for motivated candidates who can work independently as well as a part of an international team. The work place will be at CSGA (Dijon, France), but the candidate will be required to spend a 4 to 6 month period in Lyon, France (Institute Paul Bocuse, Research Center) and a 2 to 3 month period in Aarhus, Denmark (Aarhus UNIVERSITET – MAPP Centre – Research on Value Creation in the Food Sector for Consumers, Industry and Society).

The PhD will have to design innovative protocols to assess the impact of individual factors (attitudes, cognitive abilities of categorization) and caregivers’ feeding practices (instrumental consumption, health information, positive feeding…) on children’s eating behaviors in a developmental perspective (~3 to 6 years).
The aim of the project is to establish research-based knowledge on the barriers/levers to modify caregivers’ feeding practices, taking into account cognitive and psychological modifiers. The project will produce age-specific recommendations for caregivers from evidenced-based results.

The successful candidate is expected to work towards a PhD degree, with a view to completing a doctorate within the contract period. He/she will be enrolled at the PhD programme in the University of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (UBFC, Dijon, France) and must meet the conditions defined for admission. The applicant must have an academically relevant education corresponding to French master’s degree level, with a documented strong academic background, and be able to document proficiency in both written and oral English. Qualifications:

  • MSc or equivalent within a relevant scientific area (e.g. Psychology, Cognitive Sciences, Food Sciences, and Nutrition) with proved knowledge/experience in Eating Behaviors and/or Developmental Psychology.
  • Languages: excellent working knowledge (written and oral) of English. Knowledge of French is also required (oral and written).
  • Competence in data analysis applied to sensory and consumer sciences and to psychology and in statistical software (e.g. R, SAS)

Eligibility Requirements (must have)

Mobility: the candidates can be of any nationality; however, ITN programs require undertaking transnational mobility when taking up their appointment. The eligibility is determined by the date of recruitment: at the time of appointment, candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in France for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment.
Early stage researcher: at the date of recruitment they should be in the first four years of their research careers (fulltime equivalent research experience) and have not been awarded a doctoral degree. ‘Full-time equivalent research experience’ is measured from the date when the researcher obtained the degree entitling to embark on a doctorate.
